Ohio State makes change to 2024 schedule; will have new season opening game
K.Thompson3 months ago
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State will now open the 2024 season against Akron instead of Southern Mississippi, the school announced on Tuesday. The cancellation between Ohio State and Southern Miss, a game which was scheduled to be played on Aug. 31, was terminated after both programs “mutually agreed” to do so. Ohio State and Akron will now begin the season at The Horseshoe, and the Buckeyes will have two Mid-American Conference games to start the season. Western Michigan will come to Columbus the following week. The Buckeyes will play a non-conference schedule next season of Akron, Western Michigan and Marshall, with a bye week before the Marshall game. Then, Big Ten play begins. The matchup against Akron will be the 10th all-time meeting between the two schools — they last played in 2021. The Buckeyes are now currently scheduled to play one non-conference game against an in-state, MAC school for each of the next four seasons: Akron (2024), Ohio (2025), Kent State (2026) and Bowling Green (2027).
