The Okeechobee County sheriff is asking residents to come together to help those in Taylor County affected by Hurricane Helene.

An Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) retired deputy reached out to his old coworkers about the immense damage in Taylor County, where he now lives.

In an effort to show support, OSCO announced that it is partnering with the Taylor County Sheriff's Office to provide assistance to residents there.

According to officials, the sheriff's office will begin gathering supplies on Monday to deliver to the affected county.

A trailer will be set up at the sheriff's office's headquarters, located at 504 Northwest 4th Street in Okeechobee. Authorities are asking those who can help to notify staff when they arrive, and they will help load the items into the trailer.

Donating items such as diapers for children and adults, wet wipes, mosquito spray, batteries in all sizes, and nutrition bars is recommended.

OCSO aims to have enough donations to deliver them to Taylor County on Friday.
