old cat saved from car engine

A kitten that got stuck in a car engine had a lucky escape after a driver heard its cries.

West Yorkshire firefighters came to the cat's rescue near Killinghall Road in Bradford - and had to strip the vehicle to free the youngster.

Bradford Cat Watch Rescue said the kitten looked to have fractures in his back legs, but should make a full recovery.

The five-week-old, who is receiving emergency care, has been named Ota after the Toyota car in which he was trapped.

Cat Watch founder Katie Lloyd said: "We initially went out to assess and heard tiny weak cries.

"It would seem that the owner of the car has been driving around with the kitten trapped."

She described how it took several specialist fire and rescue officers over an hour to strip part of the car and find where the tiny tomcat was hidden.

She said: "Little Ota has had X-rays and most likely has two tibia fractures in his back legs but he is young enough to make a full recovery.

"Many thanks to the amazing officers at West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service once again for saving another little life."
