Olympic technology for training, recovery in use in Norman

NORMAN, Okla. ( KFOR ) – World-class athletes use some of the world's best technology while training for the Olympics. But what if we said you can use that same technology right here in the metro? You can at NMotion Sports and Human Performance Center.

The pool at the Young Family Athletic Center in Norman may not be an Olympic site or even training facility. However, the camera angles they use to view swimmer's motions from above and below the water is the same technology used at both of those places.

"So we can really, really get the whole picture of the complete swimmer," Dr. Amanda Sadler with NMotion said.

Sadler is the functional sports medicine physician at NMotion. She's been swimming since she was 3 years old. She also holds a world record for Iron Man triathlons and has participated in Olympic trials. Now, she runs NMotion and is hoping to introduce this same type of technology used at Olympic trials by both college and professional athletes to the public.

"It's something I'm very passionate about," she said.

The cameras they use in the pool are called sideline scout and are used for stroke analysis.

"I can say, hey, look at this, here is exactly what you're doing and also they'll be able to learn and correct," she said.

They also have recovery options for people too. I tried one out myself called Normatec. It's compression therapy that is supposed to help reduce soreness, swelling and inflammation through air casts.

"It's pushing up blood back to your heart, then it goes to our heart to get re-oxygenated and it gets detoxified with all the body systems it goes through," she said.

Sadler said these and other options like cold plunge or cold baths and sweat analysis among others are what make the difference for world class athletes.

"You start doing all those little, teeny tiny things, then it makes a big difference," she said. "That's when we get the magical results, so to speak."

Sadler said they see about 1,000 patients in their center right now. You can find more information at nmotionok.com/home

The Olympics is set to start later in July.
