Omaha organization helps people relax amidst tumultuous times

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - It can be hard dealing with stress. Saturday, a local nonprofit organization hosted a community healing event for people to wash away their troubles and relax for a moment. I Be Black Girl is a reproductive justice nonprofit in Omaha. Their event was open to the public today to encourage people to take a breather from what's stressing them out. Stress can cause adverse physical and mental effects. One way to help can be meditation. Here they did a type of meditative practice called a "sound bath." "When we're able to share in community together, it just makes us feel more at ease with our circumstances, with our lives, bringing us more joy, and peace. And we really deserve that," Celine Haynes with I Be Black Girl said. "When you walk into your joy, you step into your light and when you step into your life. And so it's really how do you live life more abundantly," Andrea Joy Pearson, founder of Joy Brings Light said. This was free to the public. It's a response to built up stress surrounding the election, but the organization tells me they hope to hold more in the future.
