One dead, two injured in string of shootings in Utica

UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — Utica Police are asking for the public's help in investigating a string of shootings that happened early Friday morning that left one person dead and two people injured.

Utica Police and Fire units were called to South Street at approximately 12:30 am on Friday, November 8. Upon their arrival, they located a male suffering from a gunshot wound to his stomach. Further investigation found that an unknown suspect allegedly entered the store on South Street and shot the victim.

That victim was transported to the Wynn Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. Police say that he is in currently in critical but stable condition.

While investigating that incident, officers received a ShotSpotter alert of multiple gunshots on Faxton Street. As they were traveling to the incident, police received reports of multiple victims being struck by gunfire.

Upon their arrival there, they located a male suffering from gunshot wounds to his back and a female suffering from gunshot wounds to her chest. Officers and firefighters began giving first aid to the victims, and both of them were transported to the Wynn Hospital as well.

The female eventually passed away from her injuries. Police say that the male is in stable condition.

While Police were investigating the Faxton Street incident, at approximately 3:30 am, they received another ShotSpotter alert, this one from the 1500 block of Howard Avenue.

Upon their arrival on the scene, officers spoke to residents of the home. They stated that multiple shots had been fired into the home while they were sleeping. Police say no one was struck, but multiple children were inside the home at the time of the incident.

The incidents are being investigated by the Criminal Investigations Division and Major Crimes Unit of the Utica Police Department. Police say that they are also investigating if any of the three incidents are related.
