Now, with the area losing an estimated five metres of coast on an annual basis, Minister Kieran O'Donnell has approved funding of €657,338 for minor flood mitigation works and coastal protection works at Seaview.

The proposed works will include an additional layer of full height rock armour for 100m of coastline, which will protect houses to the east of the coastline. This funding is in addition to €1,072,661 approved by the Office of Public Works (OPW) at Seaview since 2021, which brings the total approved funding for this project to €1,729,999.

The announcement was welcomed by Wexford Minister James Browne who said the funding, "will protect the third section of road, spanning 145 metres. Full height rock armour will be constructed to protect houses to the east of the coastline.I'm delighted to confirm funding approval for these works, which will bring a huge amount of relief to the affected residents.

"For some years, I have been advocating for the residents of Seaview. Councillor Lisa McDonald and Wexford County Council have worked on developing proposals to adequately protect the coastline and affected homes at Seaview. Last June €668,921 was allocated towards flood works there."

Cllr Ger Carthy also welcomed the funding, saying that this was a project he and his colleagues in the Rosslare Municipal District had been working on for many years.
