Oneida Castle— Shirley I. Towne, 91, of East Second Street Oneida Castle died peacefully Sunday afternoon June 30, 2024, in the comfort of her own home with her family at her side under the care of Hospice.Shirley was born on April 27, 1933, in Trenton, the daughter of Walter and Laura Evans Bolton. She was a graduate of Holland Patent High School class of 1951.On November 10, 1979, she married Deidrich E. Towne in Oriskany. They renewed their vows on November 9, 2013, in St. Helena's Church with their close friend Rev. William A. Mesmer officiating. Mr. Towne died on June 6, 2018.A resident of Oneida Castle since 1975 she attended St. Helena's Church. Shirley had been employed as the food and beverage director at the Eastern Star Home in Oriskany for over 10 years retiring in 1978. Being employed in food service was one of the factors that drove Shirley to love to cook and entertain in her home.Surviving are six children, Daniel J. (Debbie) Clemmons of Frankfort; Deborah M. (Jeremy) Purple of Rome; Deidrich E. (Catherine) Towne of Syracuse; Marguerite C. (John Kott) Towne of Liverpool; Jeremy D. (Janie) Towne of Whiting, ME; Carol A. (Steve) Urguhart of Saranac Lake, ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a sister Cindy (Larry) Murren Bolton of Newberry, FL. She was predeceased by a granddaughter Caitlin and her first husband William Clemmons. A special thanks to Dr. Keith Marshall and staff at Verona Health for all the kindness and compassion shown to Shirley during her illness. A special heartfelt thanks to Mandy and Scott, Laura and Bill, Marcia, and Audrey and Don, and Karen.Funeral services will be held 1 PM Saturday July 6, 2024, from the Ironside Funeral Inc., 342 Main St. Oneida with Rev. John A. Buehler and Rev. William A. Mesmer co-officiating. Friends are invited and may call after the service until 4 PM.
