ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) — Onslow Memorial Hospital is getting a big gift.

Onslow Caregivers Incorporated is giving the hospital's foundation $400,000. That money is going to support hospice services for local residents. Onslow Memorial held an appreciation event earlier on Tuesday.

The hospital's President and CEO Penney Burlingame-Deal says right now, they have resources out in the community that help patients within the hospital setting. Now, they'll be able to expand those resources for patients and their family members. This hits especially close to home to Deal who lost her husband to Colon Cancer.

"When it comes to this gift of $400,000 to the community, as a person who's been through this, the faith piece Is enduring and it's enduring by the gift provided by Onslow Caregivers," said Deal.

Onslow Memorial is also celebrating its 80th anniversary. They say this gift will now be a big part of their year-long celebration.

Grimm, 54, suffered the devastating injury in September and is now being treated at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in New Jersey, where the late actor Christopher Reeve was treated after a similar equestrian accident in 1995, according to Vincent Ignizio, a friend of Grimm's who is a former New York City Council member. "It was a passion of his and he suffered a tragic accident at the end of September," said Ignizio, who has set up a GoFundMe account to pay for Grimm's medical care.
