Orangemen offense stifled by the York Dukes

The Orangemen couldn't get much offense going against Class B No. 9 ranked York Friday night.

York defeated Beatrice 34-7 at the House of Orange.

Beatrice got the ball to start the game at their own 20 yard line and an incomplete pass followed by two straight runs fell short of the first down line, forcing the Orangemen to punt.

York's first possession started at their own 27 yard line. A 37 yard pass to Garrett Snodgrass got the Dukes into Beatrice territory and three plays later, York scored on a 4-yard touchdown run to make it 7-0 early.

The Orangemen started their next drive on their own 20 yard line and once again went three-and-out.

After the punt, York took over at their own 40 yard line. On a third down play, York faked a spike and passed it deep to a wide open Declan Peterson, who was able to score from 50 yards out, extending the Duke lead to 14-0.

The Orangemen offense struggled again on their next drive and were forced to punt after a three-and-out.

The Dukes were able to take it deep into Orangemen territory, but an interception by John Riesen on the sideline gave Beatrice a little bit of momentum.

Beatrice was able to move the ball on their next drive thanks to an array of runs by Riesen, Merrick Johnson and Beau Spilker. But near midfield, on a third and long play, a deep pass by Boston Crawford was intercepted and returned for an apparent touchdown. A block in the back penalty on the return, though, brought the ball back to midfield.

A personal foul on the Orangemen would move York into Beatrice territory and a few plays later, York scored on a 27 yard touchdown pass to Peterson, extending the lead to 21-0.

After more offensive struggles, Beatrice would punt again late in the second quarter. On the third play of York's drive, they scored on a 39 yard touchdown run by Troy Schmid, which made the half time score 28-0.

York took their first drive of the second half into Beatrice territory, but the Orangemen defense got a stop on 4th and 11 to take over on downs at their own 28 yard line.

Aided by a personal foul penalty on York and a 10 yard pass from Crawford to Connor Hayden, the Orangemen took their first drive of the second half into Duke territory, but a fumble at midfield was recovered by York.

York would drive it down and then score on a touchdown pass on the very first play of the fourth quarter. The extra point was missed, though, keeping the score at 34-0.

Beatrice finally got some offense going in the fourth quarter, putting together a long scoring drive that was capped by Craword's 8 yard touchdown pass to Connor Hayden, making the score 34-7, which would be the final score.

Beatrice falls to 1-3 on the season and will return to action next Friday when they host Hastings.
