Overcast and dreary for most of the day with showers and storms arriving this afternoon
COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Good Wednesday morning! Overcast and muggy to start the day with rain showers looming to arrive later this afternoon and evening.
Expect skies to remain overcast throughout the morning and into the afternoon as we tap tropical moisture indirectly related to Rafael out in the Caribbean. Showers and storms should arrive as early as midday with showers and storms progressively picking up in coverage. A Flood Watch has been posted for areas southeast of Columbus where rainfall totals could reach 1-3".
We will keep rain chances in the forecast through the rest of the week as a stalled front remains draped across the southeast. While rain chances are not high for the rest of the week, a few showers could be possible under mostly cloudy skies.
Rafael reached category one hurricane strength last night and will make landfall in Cuba later on Wednesday before reaching the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Rafael is projected to reach category two strength before interacting with the aforementioned stalled front. The front should help keep Rafael southward and westward of Columbus and help shear the storm apart.
