The Pennsylvania Game Commission released a statement Friday in response to a house fire last weekend in Somerset County where a

Wildlife officials say they raccoon is in their possession and that the fire is still under investigation.

Authorities say the firefighters were attacked by the raccoon, which was living at the house, while responding to a fire along Somerset Pike, in Conemaugh Township, on Sunday afternoon.

On Sunday 9/29 I (State Game Warden April Whitsell) responded to a house fire along Somerset Pike after a raccoon within the home had attacked two firefighters during their attempts to evacuate it. I collected the information of those afflicted and took possession of the raccoon. The incident is still under investigation. Please remember that wildlife is dangerous, unpredictable, and should not be handled by the general public under any circumstances. Both firefighters are reportedly doing fine.
