Paravel Has New Wine-Hued Luggage For The Holidays With Silver Oak Cellars

Travel gear maker Paravel has partnered with California-based winery Silver Oak on a limited-edition holiday luggage collection . The collaboration, which includes Paravel's signature Aviator suitcases in a dark red hue inspired by wine, was crafted specifically to transport wine bottles, catering to enthusiasts who prioritize environmental considerations in their purchases.

"We're always thinking about ways to inspire people to enjoy and share our wine," says Silver Oak CEO David Duncan via email, adding that this collaboration also presents an opportunity to extend the winery's reach beyond traditional spaces and into the travel sphere. "This collaboration allows Silver Oak to show up in places where people wouldn't normally expect to see wine."

Available in three sizes, the luggage can hold two, three, or six bottles, a practical choice for wine enthusiasts who bring wine on their travels. Each piece in the collection is tailored to hold bottles securely, with custom foam inserts made from recycled materials, a feature Duncan says was essential to the design process.

"The suitcases are built for real life," he says. "During the design process, we worked closely with Paravel to ensure the bottles stay secure."

Paravel touts the wine cases are also intended for practical use beyond the holidays, potentially appealing to travelers who may purchase wine abroad and require safe transport options.

The collection's design, which incorporates the dark red hue associated with Silver Oak wines, reflects a joint focus on environmental practices. Silver Oak's Napa and Alexander Valley wineries hold LEED Platinum certifications, and its Alexander Valley site became the world's first winery to earn the rigorous Living Building certification.

Paravel, meanwhile, is marketing its Aviator luggage line as the industry's first carbon-neutral luggage, crafted with recycled materials and designed to minimize environmental impact.

Andy Krantz, co-founder and CEO of Paravel, says the choice of materials and carbon offsetting practices reflect a broader shift in luxury goods toward sustainability.

"We use upcycled and recycled materials in all of our Paravel luggage," says Krantz, pointing to components made from recycled polycarbonate, aluminum and vegan leather. The wine case inserts—designed to cushion Silver Oak bottles in transit—are manufactured from recycled, non-toxic foam in Wisconsin. Paravel also offsets emissions generated by the sourcing, assembly and shipping of its luggage, extending this offset to the estimated carbon footprint of a customer's first flight with the product.

As climate awareness grows, travelers are increasingly prioritizing sustainable options. In February 2024, a Statista survey found that 83% of global travelers consider sustainable travel important, while a report from Booking.com showed that 76% plan to travel more sustainably in the coming year. These shifts reflect a desire for meaningful contributions to environmental efforts, with travelers seeking small changes like choosing eco-certified accommodations, supporting local businesses, or opting for reusable travel essentials, which can collectively lessen the travel industry's carbon footprint.

"Today's consumers are increasingly mindful of the impact their purchases have on the planet and are looking for brands that align with their values," Krantz says, underscoring the collaboration's appeal to an environmentally conscious audience. "By combining Paravel's sustainable design philosophy with Silver Oak's commitment to quality and responsible production, we're offering a product that speaks to this shift."

As both companies look to the future, this collaboration, they suggested, may point toward additional environmentally conscious partnerships.

"Sustainability isn't just a trend for us," Duncan says. "It's a long-term commitment."
