Parent accused of assaulting MPS teacher has been arrested
A parent of a Milwaukee public school student has been charged with a felony after, prosecutors say, he assaulted a teacher at his child's elementary school.
Eddie Caldwell, 53, was charged last week with battery to a school district officer, a felony, and disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor. He is currently in custody at the Milwaukee County Jail, according to online records.
According to a criminal complaint, the incident took place Oct. 29 at Bruce Elementary School, 6453 North 89th Street.
The teacher entered her special education classroom to find Caldwell in the room along with her students, the complaint states.
Caldwell pushed and struck the teacher's head multiple times, used profanity and said he was "going to beat her," according to the complaint. Multiple witnesses spoke to police and corroborated the teacher's allegations.
"MPS is aware of a situation at Bruce Elementary School," the district said in a statement.
"Student safety remains our primary focus at MPS. When situations occur that could impact safety, the district has policies and procedures in place. We expect everyone in our buildings to always meet our standards of conduct, especially when students are present.
"Due to state and federal law, the district cannot comment on the circumstances of individual students and their families. The district cannot comment on personnel matters. MPS will follow its code of conduct when addressing consequences for anyone determined to be involved."
