Parents recount hearing shots fired near little league baseball game in Antioch
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Instead of a fun night of little league baseball, parents say their night was filled with fear.
Families jumped to the ground Tuesday night after they said they heard what sounded like gunshots as their kids were playing baseball at William A. Pitts Park.
"My son has never heard gunshots that close before, nor has his friends," said Jeff Sellers, a parent of one of the little league players. "At that point, the evening turned traumatic with the boys on the field ducking for cover, and parents were cowering behind the dugouts."

According to Sellers and other parents who were at the park, police came later and calmed the situation. No injuries were reported, but the memory of what happened is still on fresh on their minds.
The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) would not confirm that the shooting happened but did say another shooting happened six miles south of the park.
"It was a traumatic experience for our kids, the coaches, the players and the families," Sellers told News 2.
Shootings have occurred at William A. Pitts Park in the past. In fact, one of the most recent incidents happened last April where a 36-year old-man was found shot to death . MNPD said they are still looking for a suspect in that incident.

Parents believe safety improvements are far overdue, asking for police to have more patrols, cameras and more lighting. They said they don't want their kids to play over shell casings on the ground.
Creating ways to make the park safer is a goal these parents have for all parks, adding they want their children to have a safe place to play and grow.
