Parole officer arrested for DUI in north Alabama

An Alabama pardons officer was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of driving under the influence.

According to Sgt. Chris Jackson of Huntsville police, the incident happened just before 8 a.m. Saturday.

A Huntsville police officer was patrolling around the area of Memorial Parkway and Haysland Road.

The officer saw a vehicle make a traffic infraction and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.

After the driver stopped in a parking lot, the officer approached the vehicle and made contact with the driver, identified as Arthur Mauldin.

The officer said Mauldin was showing signs of impaired driving and arrested him for driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to a spokesman with the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles, Mauldin is an officer with the bureau's Huntsville Day Reporting Center.

He has been placed on leave pending further investigation.
