A 42-year-old Pasadena man was shot with an airsoft gun and assaulted by three suspects during an altercation Thursday morning that began over a stolen iPhone, police said.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:42 a.m. near the Lake Avenue Metro platform, according to Pasadena Police Lieutenant Andrea Perez.

An airsoft gun is a replica of a real firearm designed to fire small, round plastic BBs using air pressure.

Officers responded to calls about three individuals fighting in the roadway near Lake Avenue and Union Street. Upon arrival, they found the victim bleeding profusely from his head at Lake Avenue and Locust Street, Perez said.

Perez reported the victim told officers he had argued with one suspect over a stolen iPhone.

The suspect then shot him in the head with an airsoft gun before walking away. When the victim followed, a fight ensued, Perez said.

Two additional suspects — a man and a woman— joined in the assault, Lt. Perez added. The primary suspect was armed with an airsoft gun and a sharp instrument.

The victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition with multiple injuries, including lacerations to his head, eyebrow, wrist, and forearm and a one-inch hematoma to the center of his head.

Perez noted that the victim was uncooperative and provided limited information.

The suspects fled the scene before police arrived.
