Passenger captures mysterious dent on nose of Delta plane after landing

DENVER ( KDVR ) — On Monday afternoon, Delta flight 1648 from Detroit to Denver landed at the Denver International Airport without incident.

After deplaning, one passenger stopped and looked out the window at the aircraft she had just arrived on.

"It was kind of a shock. We looked over and that's what we saw and nobody's kind of been able to figure out what it is," said Lynn Bennett.

She posted a picture on social media of the plane's front end, which appeared to be dented, almost like it hit something mid-flight since Bennett said it wasn't there when they flew out of Detroit more than three hours earlier.

"There was slight turbulence when we were flying but nothing out of the ordinary," Bennett said.

A Delta spokesperson told Nexstar's KDVR, "Crews received an indication of a mechanical issue in the nose of the aircraft. The flight landed safely and taxied to the gate without incident."

The spokesperson added that crews were able to inspect and repair the aircraft overnight. A new aircraft — Airbus A319 — took customers on the outbound flight from Denver to Salt Lake City on Monday night. The outbound flight was delayed by over four hours.

"We apologize to our customers for the delay in their travel," the Delta spokesperson said.

There were 148 passengers and six crew members on board, with no reports of injuries.

For Bennett, this will just remain a mystery.

"I think that's the biggest, exciting part of it all kind of is: 'What happened'?" she said. "What is it? Why isn't Delta commenting about it? Just saying mechanical issues and they're going to fix it. But why is it a mechanical issue? What happened?"
