Patient Stabs EMT In Philadelphia Thursday Morning: Police The medic is in critical, but stable, condition, and the patient-turned-suspect is in police custody after the Thursday morning incident.

PHILADELPHIA — A medic is in critical condition after he was stabbed twice early Thursday morning in Philadelphia, reportedly by a patient he was treating in an ambulance.

According to police, the stabbing occurred at about 6:28 a.m. at North 22nd and Diamond streets.

The medic was stabbed in the chest and hand while in an ambulance with a patient, police said.

Authorities told Fox 29 the patient became irate and attacked the medic.

The patient then jumped out of the ambulance and ran off , but was taken into custody, according to NBC10 and police.

Police said while the medic is in critical condition, he is stable.

This attack on a healthcare professional comes less than a week after three nurses were struck by a vehicle while attending to a patient outside Penn Presbyterian Hospital.

A 20-year-old man has been charged in connection with that incident.
