Patricia Heaton's 4 Children: All About Sons Samuel, John, Joseph and Daniel

Patricia Heaton is best known for playing a mom on the popular sitcoms Everybody Loves Raymond and The Middle, but it is her off-screen parenting journey that means the most to her.

The Frasier actress and her husband, actor David Hunt, have four sons: Samuel, John, Joseph and Daniel. Heaton posted a throwback photo on Instagram with her four sons before an award show with the caption, "#TBT All the glam in the world doesn't change the fact that you're a mommy first, last, and always."

The Emmy winner has been a proponent of trying to do it all, balancing her career with her parenting. Heaton even wrote a book in 2002, Motherhood and Hollywood: How to Get a Job Like Mine, to illuminate for her fans how she made it all work. Sixteen years later, she published another book, this time a cookbook, Patricia Heaton's Food for Family and Friends, filled with her favorite recipes made over the years for her sons.

In May 2024, Heaton shared a throwback photo of her kids in matching attire and wrote in the caption about her motherhood journey. "This photo was taken the 4th season of Raymond...a blessing and a challenge!" she penned. "Motherhood brings out all the superpowers- you discover reservoirs of strength you didn't believe were possible! Loved every minute."

Samuel Hunt Samuel is the oldest of Heaton and Hunt's children.

Unlike his famous parents, Samuel has chosen to live a more private life outside of the entertainment industry. His Instagram shows photos of himself with friends and enjoying nature while his bio shares that he is a musician.

Heaton posted about Samuel's band Oginalii on Facebook in 2016, sharing a photo of the group braving a snowstorm in Nashville. When he was younger, Samuel was often seen on the red carpet with his parents but he does not make many public appearances now that he is an adult.

Although Samuel and his siblings may not be seen with Heaton publicly, they support their mom behind closed doors. On an episode of the Heart of the Matter podcast in 2021, Heaton shared that an embarrassing moment with her adult children and their friends, motivated her to get sober.

They were all playing a board game when she realized she had too much to drink and was slurring her words.

"And my son at the end of the table says, 'Oh great, mom. You can't even talk.' And I was so humiliated in front of my sons," she shared. "And God knows that that's all it takes for me — for that kind of sense of their mom looking drunk in front of them."

Heaton has now been sober for over five years with the support of her family.

Like his older brother, John has chosen a life outside the public eye. On The Drew Barrymore Show in 2021, Heaton shared one of her parenting fails when John attended a two-week music camp.

During that time, the whole family was looking forward to the end-of-camp concert. Unfortunately, Heaton got the days mixed up and was driving to a bar mitzvah when John called asking if they were coming to the concert. Heaton replied that they were when John said, "It's right now." Although the moment was tough at the time, the actress recounted it with a laugh on the talk show.

Although he is private now, when he was younger, he was often seen out and about with his famous parents. One of their family-friendly red carpet experiences came in 2007 when Heaton brought her children to a premiere of The Simpsons Movie.

Like his eldest brother, Joseph has also taken a musical route. His Instagram bio says he is a drummer and a photographer and his account is filled with photos he's taken at concerts. Joseph also plays drums on tour with bands, including a tour with Fiji Blue.

In a 2022 post about the tour, he wrote, "Honored to have been a part of a sold out North American tour with Much love and gratitude towards the incredible team who made it possible." Becauae of his work, Jospeh travels often, including trips to New York City, South Korea and Tokyo.

He travels with his parents as well — in another post on Instagram , Heaton shared about a 2023 vacation she took with her husband and Joseph, writing, "Took in the Scottish play at with The post included a photo of her son, as well as the atmosphere at the historic Shakespearean venue.

The youngest in the family, Daniel is also a photographer, who frequently shares his work on his Instagram account. While most of his photos are of nature, he shot a King Princess concert in 2018 . Another Instagram post from that year features the top of his mom's head peeking over a car.

Heaton opened up about another parenting fail on The View in 2020, this time involving Daniel. The actress shared that she and her husband accidentally forgot Daniel's 21st birthday and were scrambling to make it up to him.
