Five free agents visited Foxborough on Monday, including a Massachusetts native.

The New England Patriots worked out quarterback Austin Burton, tight ends Michael Ezeike, La’Michael Pettway and Christian Sims, as well as defensive back Cameron McCutcheon.

The tryouts were first shared by ESPN’s Mike Reiss and KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson .

Burton, 25, began his collegiate career at UCLA after beginning his high school career at Newton South. He transferred to Purdue in 2021 and appeared in six games for the Boilermakers as a sixth-year senior. Making two starts last fall, Burton completed 36-of-56 passes for 273 yards with three touchdowns and one interception before going undrafted.

Ezeike, 23, signed with the Los Angeles Chargers as a rookie free agent and was waived at the NFL’s cutdown deadline in August. The former wide receiver converted to tight end while at UCLA. Across 48 appearances during his Bruins tenure, he totaled 35 catches for 407 yards and seven touchdowns.

Pettway, 26, went undrafted in 2020 following stops at Arkansas and Iowa State, where he caught 55 passes for 676 yards and six touchdowns as a redshirt senior. The Spring League alum joined the Michigan Panthers in 2022 and won the 2023 USFL Championship with the Birmingham Stallions. He signed with the Indianapolis Colts during training camp in August.

Sims, 22, entered the NFL as part of the Los Angeles Rams ’ 2023 undrafted class and was waived in August. The rookie tight end totaled 94 receptions for 948 yards and five touchdowns along with one rushing score at Bowling Green. Second-team All-MAC honors followed as a senior in 2022.

McCutcheon, 23, also signed with the Rams as an undrafted free agent in May. The rookie cornerback was released from the Los Angeles practice squad last week. He recorded 79 tackles, two interceptions, one forced fumble and recovery across two seasons at Western Carolina after transferring from Gardner-Webb.

Recent No. 3 Patriots quarterback Will Grier cleared waivers on Monday. And following the promotion of veteran offensive tackle Conor McDermott to the 53-man roster, the practice squad currently includes two openings.

The Chargers visit Gillette Stadium next Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET.
