Paul vs. Tyson fight causes 260% surge for Arlington hotels
DALLAS (KDAF) — It's fight day in Arlington, as Mike Tyson and Jake Paul get ready to face off in the ring tonight.
Hotels.com is reporting a surge in booking trends for the area, highlighting the growing impact of celebrity boxing events on local travel. The event has driven a significant travel spike, rivaling the demand usually seen for local Cowboys games, one of the area's biggest travel drivers.
Hotels.com said there's been a 260% increase in demand for Arlington area hotels the night of the match up, compared to the same day last year. Rates on Hotels.com are also up 80% compared to last year, the second highest of the year, surpassed only by the highly anticipated Cowboys vs. Eagles game on November 18.
A majority of those bookings are for one-night stays on Friday, and 10% of them are from international travelers.
This spike reflects the strong pull this high-profile fight has on fans willing to travel and shows that modern sports entertainment isn't limited to traditional leagues.
