Pearl Beverly Friedley

Pearl Beverly (St. John) Friedley passed away at Javon Bea Hospital-Riverside, Rockford, IL on October 23, 2024, she was 92 years old. She was born March 6, 1932, to Hazel Geneva (Nelson) St. John & Alfred St. John. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Gene St. John.
Pearl is survived by her children Jake Friedley of Salem, IL; Genie (Cal) Newsom of Harlingen, TX, Julaine (Jim) Ober of Beloit, WI, 3 grandchildren Jessica Friedley, James Ober & Josephine Leon as well as several great grandchildren. She was affectionally called "Tusa" by family.
She met Jack Milton Friedley in Chicago, IL & 2 weeks later, on June 4, 1953, they eloped & married in Geneva, IL.
Pearl led a rich and varied life, she supported her husband Jack in his Standardbred horse racing in Salem, IL & the raising of 3 children on the horse farms. They divorced in May of 1976, and she moved to Madison, WI. There she became the head accountant at the Best Western Inn On the Park at the capital square & was employed there for many years. After that, she decided to become a nanny, trained in Baltimore, MD & lived in Nashville, TN. She subsequently moved to Prairie du Sac, WI and managed the Antique Tap. Wanting to own her own business, she opened Pearl's Bar & Grill in Merrimac, WI in 1996 & ran it for several years. Once fully retired, she moved to Beloit, WI & enjoyed travel with friends. At Grinnell Hall in Beloit, WI she was a regular and had many friends there. She loved to participate in their various activities which included travel, meals & her exercise classes.
A memorial service will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at Grinnell Hall, 631 Bluff Street, Beloit, WI. All are welcome.
