J.Nelson6 hr ago

The community is invited to experience Mars with the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) this Saturday, Nov. 16 with Mars: The Ultimate Voyage and The Martian Mars: The Ultimate Voyage Planetarium Show. At 2:00 PM, kick off the day with "Mars: The Ultimate Voyage," a captivating new planetarium show that explores what it takes for astronauts to journey to Mars and beyond. This animated production highlights the extraordinary challenges of space travel, including long distances, a closed environment, and radiation exposure. Through stunning visuals, the show emphasizes the importance of creativity, collaboration, and communication in preparing the next generation of astronauts. Admission: Adult $8, Child $6 | Age Recommendation: 6+ Screening of "The Martian" in the Planetarium Later in the evening, join PEEC for a special showing of the award-winning film "The Martian." Did you know that the screenwriter, Drew Goddard, grew up right here in Los Alamos? His upbringing greatly influenced the film, which he describes as "a love letter to scientists." Inspired by the movie, a special potato chip bar will open at 5:30 PM, and the screening will begin at 6:00 PM. In "The Martian," astronaut Mark Watney (played by Matt Damon) is stranded on Mars after a fierce storm, presumed dead by his crew. With only a meager amount of supplies, he must utilize his wits, spirit, and botany knowledge to survive on the hostile planet, while back on Earth, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring him home. Admission: $8 per person. Seating in the planetarium is limited to 50 people, so we encourage attendees to register and purchase tickets in advance! Interested in both events? Contact PEEC for a special discount. For more information, visit our website at peecnature.org/events. Stay connected withus on social media for updates on each week's activities.
