Penn State is wasting no time seeking wide receiver talent in the transfer portal.

North Texas wide receiver Ja’Mori Maclin has been offered a scholarship by James Franklin and his staff, the Nittany Lions’ target announced on social media on Thursday .

The transfer portal doesn’t open for underclassmen until Monday, Dec. 4. But it is open to graduate transfers like Maclin, who has two years of eligibility remaining.

Maclin is a sought-after player in the portal already, adding offers from Ole Miss, Kentucky, Michigan State and Cincinnati.

Maclin, the cousin of former Philadelphia Eagles receiver Jeremy Maclin, started his career at Missouri before transferring to North Texas after two seasons.

Maclin started to establish himself as a big play threat last year with the Mean Green, racking up 380 yards on just 16 receptions (23.8 yards per catch). The 5-foot-11, 183-pounder then exploded this fall to lead one of the most prolific passing attacks in the FBS.

Maclin had 57 catches for 1,004 yards and 11 touchdowns in 12 games this year. His 1,004 yards ranked third in the American Athletic Conference and 23rd in the FBS.

Maclin certainly won’t be the only receiver Penn State offers as it tries to provide support for quarterback Drew Allar and improve its passing game. The Nittany Lions struggled for most of the season to generate explosive plays downfield.

Maclin, if he picks Penn State, could help alleviate those concerns.
