Penn State report card: Domination on both sides of the ball by the Lions

H.Wilson3 months ago

OFFENSE: By far the year’s best performance and, except for vs. FCS Delaware, the year’s gaudiest numbers. Got both running backs involved. Got both quarterbacks involved. Shots down the field! Play action! Failure to turn yards into points early was the only issue. Grade: A-minus.

DEFENSE: Oddly, Michigan State never abandoned the run, as other Penn State foes eventually have, despite negative net yardage. Can’t see a single negative in an utterly dominant performance. Grade: A.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Alex Felkins missed a makeable field goal, although he made two others, including a 49-yarder. We’re kind of nit-picking here, although the Lions didn’t dominate in this phase as they did in the other two. Grade: B.

COACHING: Full recovery from the Michigan loss, with a coordinator change thrown in, wasn’t a given, so the last two weeks have been impressive in that regard. The offense has been just tweaked enough under the new offensive staff. Grade: A-minus.
