NEW PHILADELPHIA — PennDOT will unveil plans to replace a bridge on Route 209 in New Philadelphia at a public meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the Good Intent Fire Company.

The meeting will be held prior to the regularly scheduled New Philadelphia borough council meeting at 15 Macomb Street.

During the presentation, subject boards will be displayed to show the different facets of the project. The plans will also be on display and available for approximately one month on PennDOT's website at Schuylkill County Public Meetings ( pa.gov ).

The existing structure, which is on Valley Street, has deteriorated to a level where the bridge needs to be replaced, PennDOT said.

The 10 feet long, 35.5 feet wide bridge was constructed in 1938 and widened in 1949. Average daily traffic volume is 4,288 vehicles. The proposed replacement structure is a 40 feet long, 16 feet wide precast concrete box culvert with wingwalls.

In general, the project is anticipated to maintain the existing roadway and stream alignment. During construction the plan is to maintain traffic by constructing the culvert in stages.

The project is currently in design. The public can review the information and provide comments from Nov. 19 to Dec. 19.
