Pennington County treasurer announces property tax payment deadline

J.Davis46 min ago
Pennington County Treasurer Annette Brant announced that the second half of property taxes in the county are due by midnight on October 31.

To accommodate taxpayers, a secure drop box will be available for 24/7 use beginning Tuesday at the County Administration Building, 130 Kansas City Street, Rapid City.

The drop box next to the motor vehicle self-service terminal at the Kansas City Street entrance will accept only property tax payments. Residents dropping off payments should include their Tax ID number(s) and a current phone number. Receipts will be mailed upon request. Payments deposited after midnight on Oct. 31 will incur interest.

In addition to the drop box, property tax payments can be made in person during regular business hours, Monday through Thursday, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the County Administration Building, Suite 250. Taxpayers must use the queuing system for assistance, either online, via phone, or through the receptionist upon arrival. More information is available on the county's website at www.pennco.org under the Treasurer's Department.

Phone payments must be completed by 4:30 p.m. daily, and a convenience fee will apply. Tax payments can also be mailed to PO Box 6160, Rapid City, SD 57709-6160, and must be postmarked by Oct. 31 to avoid interest charges. Payments sent to the old Saint Joseph Street address may no longer be forwarded and could be returned to the sender. Residents are encouraged to verify they are using the correct mailing address, which has been printed on tax notices since 2018.

Online payments can be made at www.pennco.org through midnight Oct. 31. However, the Treasurer's Office cautions against last-minute submissions due to high traffic, which could delay transactions and result in interest charges.

For additional information or questions, taxpayers can contact the Treasurer's Office at 605-394-2163 during office hours or visit the Treasurer's website.
