( NewsNation ) — Voters in Pennsylvania will cast their votes Tuesday in some key races in the 2024 election .

US Senate race in Pennsylvania

Democrat incumbent Sen. Bob Casey Jr . is challenged by Republican rival David McCormick in a race that is likely to affect which party controls the Senate.

Casey is Pennsylvania's longest-serving Democrat in the Senate. He is seeking a fourth term in what he calls his toughest reelection challenge yet.

US House race in Pennsylvania

Voters will also elect 17 candidates to serve in the House from each of the state's 17 U.S. districts.

Several competitive races were being hard fought with Democrats defending their 9-8 advantage in the state's 17-seat delegation.

Six-term Republican U.S. Rep . Scott Perry, who has been a longtime supporter of former President Donald Trump , has been a perennial target for Democrats in a Republican-leaning district around the cities of Harrisburg and York. He will be facing a challenge mounted by Democrat Janelle Stelson , a longtime local TV news anchor who is a household name in the area who faced her own

In Pennsylvania's first district, four-term Republican U.S. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick will be defending his seat from Ashley Ehasz, a former Army helicopter pilot he beat in 2022 by almost 10 points.

Three-term Democratic U.S. Rep. Susan Wild and six-term Democratic U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright are also facing stiff challenges.

Challenging Wild in her Allentown-area 7th District seat is state Rep. Ryan Mackenzie . Wild outraised Mackenzie almost 7-to-1 through June 30.

Challenging Cartwright is Rob Bresnahan , a first-time candidate and developer who runs a family construction company.

On Tuesday, 468 seats in the U.S. Congress (33 Senate seats and all 435 House seats) are up for election. These elections will determine who has control over the two branches of Congress, and ultimately, who sets the agenda for the next president's term.

Pennsylvania has 19 Electoral College votes contributing to the presidential race making it one of the key swing states. The presidential election winner must earn 270 Electoral College votes to assume office.

Early voting dates in the state vary by county and early voting ended on October 29.

Oct. 29 was also the last day to request a mail-in ballot, and a county election office must receive the ballot by 8 p.m. on November 5 for it to be counted. Polls close at 8 p.m. local time on Election Day.
