Penny the missing Chihuahua returns after sausage stakeout

V.Rodriguez39 min ago
A missing Chihuahua returned after her owners camped and cooked sausages for five days on the field where she disappeared.

Liam Enisz and his partner, from Stockton-on-Tees, said their beloved pet Penny was "very food orientated" so they hoped her favourite smell would entice her home.

Eleven days after she went missing, which was coincidentally also her birthday, Penny was finally captured and reunited with her family.

Mr Enisz got a tattoo to celebrate Penny's adventure and return.

Penny had been "startled" by a bike on a walk, Mr Enisz said.

"She took off straight after the bike and then before we knew it she was round one bend, round another bend, and she was gone."

Her owners then spent five nights camping and cooking sausages in a field on the side of a busy road in Wynyard where Penny had disappeared.

Mr Enisz said they went to such lengths because Penny was "family".

"We all love each other and they bring memories, they bring love, they bring joy into our household," he said.

At one stage during the search, a community group that helps track missing dogs caught Penny on camera eating food they had also left out.
