People urged to avoid area as crews tackle blaze

People have been urged to avoid an area in a town centre as firefighters battle a large blaze.

Crews from across Wiltshire were called at 03:44 GMT on Thursday to reports of a fire inside a commercial building in Henry Street, Swindon.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service said they arrived to find a "well-developed" fire inside the building.

They added that it was "likely to be a protracted incident". Several buses have also been diverted.

Crews from Swindon, Stratton, Westlea, Royal Wootton Bassett, Cricklade, Devizes, Marlborough, Ramsbury, Chippenham, as well as the aerial platform ladder from Swindon, all attended the scene.

The fire service confirmed that Fleet Street, Holbrook Way and Milford Street are currently closed.
