Pharmacies in Central Illinois face medicine shortage

PAXTON, Ill. (WCIA) — Some pharmacies in Central Illinois could be on a medicine shortage.

Hudson Drug and Hallmark shop in Paxton say they've been limited on their supply of Adderall and Ritalin. He says other pharmacies could be going through the same thing because of multiple different situations. These drugs could be high in demand, or several manufacturers aren't making money off the specific item and other companies have to meet the need.

"We'll try to work with our patients and our providers and doctors. If someone can't get a particular drug, often there is another one in that same category that we can get that that typically will work just as well," Pharmacist Andy Hudson said.

He says the only difficulty may be dealing with insurance companies.

Hudson also says if people can't get Adderall or Ritalin they can try similar items like Vyvanse after talking with their doctor.
