All payments by families must be made with a credit card. We will send a proof of the completed obituary before we require payment. The obituary cannot run, however, until we receive payment in full.

Obituaries can be submitted for any future date, but they must be received no later than 3:00 p.m. the day prior to its running for it to be published.

Phil Shupe, Jr. 81 of Calabash, NC passed away at McLeod Seacoast Hospital, Little River, SC on Tuesday September 17th. He is survived by his partner Carol Ann Hill, son John of Woburn, MA, Granddaughter Sophia Shupe of Clearwater, FL, sister Miriam Hengen of Wyomissing, PA and sister Lisa Shupe of Casper, WY and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Phil Shupe Sr., his mother Margaret, a daughter Lori Duttera, and a sister Janet Cox. He attended Norristown, PA schools and graduated from Riverside Military and Prep Academy, Gainesville, GA. He went on to earn his degree at Dean Junior College, Franklin, MA. After graduation he joined his father in his auto sales business. He went on to work for Reading Honda, Hendrick Mercedes-Benz in Hickory, NC, and Tom Masano Mercedes-Benz Dealership in Reading, PA as manager of the used cars. Phil and Carol moved from Reinholds, PA to North Carolina in 2017 and he continued to work online and made trips back to Reading to "touch base" and attend auto auctions. He officially retired this past Spring. He was an avid golfer. Over the years he belonged to Spring Ford Country Club in Royersford, PA, Heidelberg Country Club in Bernville, PA and Meadowlands Golf Club in Calabash, NC. He looked forward to joining his son John for the member-guest tournament at Winchester Country Club in Winchester Massachusetts, winning their flight several times. They last played this past June in the tournament and created great memories together. He and Carol lived in a golfing community where he was active in inter club tournaments and his golfing friends. Phil also enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved to cook and entertain. Phil will be remembered as a gentleman whose quick wit and ready smile were endearing to many. He will be missed by his many friends he made over the years through the auto industry and golf. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in his name to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. MUSC Foundation: Cardiac Unit, 18 Bee Street MSC, 450 Charleston SC, 29425.
