Pickup truck crashes through northeast Albuquerque pizza parlor window

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – During the middle of the dinner rush, a northeast Albuquerque pizza joint was thrust into a scary situation.

It was business as usual on Friday night at Mario's Pizza and Ristorante on Juan Tabo and Menaul, dough was being rolled out, marinara spread and pizzas cooked to perfection in anticipation of the Friday rush. That is until 5:30 p.m. rolled around.

Shortly after, the unexpected took place: a truck crashed the front window.

"I get a call from my manager, and I race down here, and there was one individual male that got hit," said Eddy Burgarello, owner of the Mario's. "He was sitting waiting for his order, and he flew and landed on the ground, and thank God he was all right. He seems all right."

One person was hurt and sent flying from the benches right in front of the window, but thankfully no one was critically hurt.

Burgarello said no one else was hurt; his staff rushed to help the injured man. The restaurant had to close early last night.

"We have a brewery next door, and we feed the people there, and so at one point, we had to stop, and we couldn't give the brewery any more food."

He said police believe speed may have been a factor in the crash. Burgarello said he is grateful that no one was seriously hurt, and lives matter more than any damage to his restaurant.

"Slow down. I mean, that way you have time to stop, and nobody gets hurt, especially for the holiday season because everybody's in a rush. There's lots of time."

Mario's Pizza is back open on Saturday. KRQE reached out to APD for an update on that crash and is waiting to hear back.
