Pigtown Festival to go ahead as Limerick Council confirms funding for events

Limerick Food Group announced that after seven years, they are unable to continue running the beloved festival earlier this week, in what the group said was a decision that the council was made aware of in advance.

The council have since confirmed that they have provided funding to help sustain the Pigtown Festival this year. However, the iconic Pigtown parade will not be taking place this year due to 'resources' issues.

A statement from Limerick City and County Council has said: "Limerick City and County Council were made aware that the Limerick Food Group were not in a position to run the festival in 2024 and had allocated some resourcing to deliver elements of Pigtown for 2024, however not all of these were achievable.

"Limerick City and County Council has provided some funding to the Pigtown Festival this year to help continue the Festival name and as part of Limerick City and County Council's ongoing efforts to promote Limerick's world class food offering, to the world."

Several council-supported events will continue to take place this year under the Pigtown name, continuing to celebrate Limerick's food culture. Key events include: Little Pigtown at the Milk Market, Pigtown-themed Cooking Demo with Chef George Casey, The Art of Pigtown Artfair, and Culture Night at Treaty City Brewery.
