Pittsburgh Steelers cut ties with speedy wide receiver

N.Hernandez34 min ago
The Pittsburgh Steelers have cut wide receiver Andy Isabella from their practice squad, the team announced. Pittsburgh also cut linebacker Craig Young, opening up two spots. The Steelers released tight end Rodney Williams from their active roster, and if he clears waivers, he will almost certainly return to their practice squad.

Pittsburgh signed Isabella last week after Roman Wilson was placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. Wilson is expected back this season and the Steelers have big plans for him upon his return to the lineup.

Isabella, a former second-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals, has spent time with the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens before joining the Steelers. He has just 447 receiving yards on 33 receptions over his entire career in the NFL.

Isabella ran a 4.31 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, which helped boost his draft stock after a strong senior season as UMass under head coach Mark Whipple. The Steelers still have three wide receivers on their practice squad. Brandon Johnson, one of those receivers, does not have any elevations left.
