Pittston Area Slips Past Dallas In Girls Tennis

DALLAS – Amanda Wascavich scored wins at No. 1 singles and doubles, helping
Pittston Area pull out a 4-3 victory over Dallas in Northeast Pennsylvania
Tennis Conference action Tuesday.

Wascavich teamed with Brianne Smithonic for the win in first doubles.
Stephanie Kudey won at No. 3 singles for the Patriots, and Ashley and Meredith
Palermo won at No. 3 doubles.
Kristen Evans scored wins at No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles for the
Mountaineers. She teamed with Alia Pyros for the win in the second doubles.
Aly Nakkache got the other win for Dallas at No. 2 singles.

Hanover Area 6, Coughlin 1

WILKES-BARRE – Stephanie Podczasy won at singles and doubles, helping
Hanover Area defeat Coughlin.

Jennifer Paull and Emily Mullin also won in singles for the Hawkeyes.
Taylor Popple won at No. 1 singles for the Crusaders.

Wyoming Seminary 6, Wyoming Valley West 1

KINGSTON – Nina Shah and Sara Brown won their singles matches and teamed up
to win a doubles match to lead Wyoming Seminary.

Amy Berman also won a singles match and teamed with Kaytlin Kopen to win a
doubles match.

Helen Pavlac won the lone singles match for Wyoming Valley West.

Hazleton Area 4, Berwick 3

BERWICK – Meagan Demko and Aubrey Klesh won singles matches and paired up
to win a doubles match to lead Hazleton Area.

Sara Pifer won her singles match for Berwick and teamed with Emily Odgren
to win a doubles match.

Bishop Hafey 6, Tunkhannock 1

HAZLETON – Lindsay Dittman and Jody Kapufchinsky were among the single
winners for Bishop Hafey.

The Tigers only winner was Megan Francis, who defeated Hafey’s Alex
Blahosky in the No. 1 singles.



Crestwood 3, Meyers 2

WILKES-BARRE – Layne Kehl had 19 kills, two blocks and nine service points
and Elise Williams added nine kills as Crestwood came back from a 2-1 deficit,
winning by scores of 25-21, 23-25, 22-25, 25-18, 15-6.

Celeste Mazzoni posted eight kills, Nicole Boone contributed four kills and


Lauren Jimison led Meyers with nine service points, two kills, six digs and

points, three kills and an ace.

Bishop O’Reilly 3, North Pocono 0

MOSCOW – Melissa Gunshannon led Bishop O’Reilly with 18 digs, eight kills
and nine service points.

Ashley Rome added 13 kills, 13 digs and six points for the Queenswomen and
Mallory Medura added 12 digs and 11 points.

Hanover Area 3, Wyoming Area 0

HANOVER TWP. – Jill Albee had 12 kills, 15 digs and eight service points to
lead Hanover Area and Shannon McCann added 10 digs and 15 assists.

Joanna Smith led Wyoming Area with 18 points and six kills.

Berwick 3, Wyoming Valley West 0

BERWICK – Kristen Majikes led Wyoming Valley West with five digs and three
service points.

Hanover Area 15, Nanticoke Area 50

NANTICOKE – Hanover Area runners finished in every spot in the top 10, led
by Joe Stanek’s first-place time of 19:10. Jeff Rafach was second (19:45) and
Michael Castrignano third (20:15).

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY



Hanover Area 20, Nanticoke Area 36

NANTICOKE – Alyssa Namey (23:46), Desiree Finley (24:32) and Jamie Carbohn
(24:40) took the top three places for Hanover Area.

COLLEGE WOMEN’S TENNIS

Wilkes 9, Keystone 0

LaPLUME – Kelly Leach, Sara Ryder, Kristin Kile, Cassie Malone, Kelly
MacDonald and Beth Horn scored wins in singles and doubles as Wilkes swept
Keystone.

Misericordia 2, Gwynedd Mercy 0

DALLAS – Colin Hynes scored on a penalty kick and Eric Bilger also had a
goal to lead Misericordia.

Giovanni Tulino and Paul Shiber had assists for the Cougars and Kevin
Franco had 15 saves.

COLLEGE WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

DALLAS – Jessica Klimas had 11 digs, eight kills and five aces to lead
Misericordia. Kelly Coppage had 21 digs and 12 kills.
