Plainfield Deemed Fastest-Growing 'Boomtown' In Illinois: New Research

M.Wright4 hr ago

"Boomtowns" is the term researchers at GoBankingRates used in its latest data to refer to "the nation's fastest-growing places that are often considered a great investment." In Illinois, that's Plainfield.

GoBankingRates took a look at one city in each state with a population of more than 25,000 but less than 500,000. The personal finance resource then scores each city based on four categories — population growth, increase in housing units, increase in owner-occupied housing units and change in per capita income — to calculate an overall average score.

Here's a look at the data GoBankingRates provided about Plainfield:

  • Change in population since 2014: 4,300 (9.6 percent)
  • Population: 44,941
  • Change in per-capita income: 32.6 percent
  • Per-capita income: $53,441
  • Change in occupied housing units: 1,946 (14.0 percent)
  • Change in owner-occupied housing units: 2,220 (17.8 percent)
  • In neighboring Indiana and Wisconsin, the No. 1 "boomtowns" were Westfield and Madison, respectively.
