Pleasant Grove closer to finding its offensive identity

TEXARKANA, Tx. ( KTAL/KMSS ) — Head coach Josh Gibson has won state championships in the Wing-T. With a young offense, he felt that was the right strategy for his team. By week 2, Gibson knew he was not satisfied with it.

Last Monday, Gibson reverted his team back to a Shotgun offense. Friday, the team put that offense in play.

Pleasant Grove looking for offense in Game of the Week vs Daingerfield

"Offensively, switched offenses and with three days of practice, was so highly encouraged on Sunday on how much better we looked," Gibson said.

The team was excited to try something knew, knowing they needed change to generate offense, but they were a little unsure.

"At first I was a little shocked because we were in it [shotgun], then we got moved to Wing-T, then got moved back," running back Jamarion Richardson said. "It was just a lot of commotion a lot of stuff going on. They moved my position, I had to learn running back, all the plays, the tempo words, but I got it done."

Richardson said it was totally worth it.

The Hawks are feeling highly encouraged in their new offense, using it to defeat Daingerfield 42-6 with only three days of practice. Going into the next game with now six days of practice they feel even better.

"There's kinks to work out obviously and a lot of scheme to add," Gibson said. "But I was highly encouraged and just really surprised with how we played with just three days of work and this week it's been even better, so I'm fired up."
