Plum Orchard Lake gets needed updates

FAYETTEVILLE, WV (WVNS) – Back in January, we brought you the story of Plum Orchard Lake and how it had fallen into disrepair. Concerned citizen David Perry, was leading an effort with fellow Fayette County residents to bring attention to the nature preserve and its need for better upkeep.

Two new Almost Heaven swings added to the Mountain State

Checking in a few months later, there has been progress and upkeep since we were last here in January and the signs are there. Literally – many of the signs have been replaced with new ones.

We spoke with Mark Scott, the Assistant Chief of Fish Management for the Wildlife Resources Section of the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources; he briefed us on the updates on the lake.

"We purchased three new floating docks, one at the main boat ramp at the dam, one on the dam just for fishing to replace the one two people fished out of it. We replaced the one that's up in the furthest upstream like boat ramp so that there's all three new floating docks, super stable, super nice docks. They also resurfaced, reject the fishing pier and the dock and doors branch inside the boat ramp," Scott told 59News.

In addition to the lakeside improvements, sections of road have been newly paved, the firing range has gotten a new roof, and a part-time hire has been brought on to help maintain the area.

Thanks to the efforts of the local community, Plum Orchard Lake is a little closer to its former glory today than it was just a few months ago.
