WILKES-BARRE TWP. – Jeffrey Bozek, 37, of Wilkes-Barre Township, was found
dead off Nicholson Street early Monday morning, according to Lt. Will Clark of
the Wilkes-Barre Township Police Department. Clark said Bozek died of a
self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Luzerne County Chief Deputy Coroner William Lisman said an autopsy was
conducted late Monday morning, and “foul play and suspicion of injury at the
hands of another have been ruled out.”
Lisman said a definitive cause of death will be determined after a
toxicology report is completed.

HAZLETON – State police are searching for a 16-year-old girl who was last
seen at Funfest at 4th and Church streets at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Karen Christine Scifo, 16, of the Gabriel Teen Shelter, refused to be taken
back to the shelter and ran away from her mother, state police said.

Scifo is 5 feet, 7 inches tall, 120 pounds with long, straight brown hair
and blue eyes. She was wearing blue jeans, a khaki green tank top, white
sneakers and a brown jute necklace with beads on it.

Anyone who sees Scifo or knows her whereabouts should call state police at

WHITE HAVEN – State police are investigating reports of three cars being
set on fire early Sunday morning.

The vehicles were parked on Chemung and Elmira streets when the fires
started. Jose Maysonet, Vince Angloia and John Kerlin reported their cars were
burned, state police said.

Residents are asked to make sure vehicles are secure and to notify police
of any suspicious persons.

SALEM TWP. – Chris Ann Malinowski, 43, of Berwick, reported that someone
threw a large tractor tire on her property, damaging the lawn and flowers on
her East Sixth Street property on Sept. 4, state police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call state Police at 542-4117.

WILKES-BARRE – Diane Dwinchick, 48, of Wyoming, was injured after her
vehicle was struck in the rear in a two-car crash on North River Street at


Police said Dwinchick was southbound on North River Street and stopped for
a red traffic light at Courtright Street.

A vehicle operated by Nancy Goldston, 49, of Hunlock Creek, was southbound
on North River Street and failed to stop for the traffic light before striking
Dwinchick’s car, police said.

Police said both women were wearing seat belts. No charges were reported.

PLYMOUTH – Amar Shala Bell, 26, of Eno Street, was arrested on assault
charges after he broke into a woman’s home on West Main Street, fell asleep
and then choked the woman with a phone cord at 9 a.m. Thursday, police said.

According to court papers:

Bell forcibly entered Candice Heppding’s residence and went to sleep in her
bed.

When Heppding returned home, she told Bell to leave and an argument ensued.
Heppding called 911 and Bell ripped the phone from the wall.

Bell choked Heppding with the phone cord and then attempted to exit the
residence.

Heppding blocked the doorway and attempted to call 911. Bell took
Heppding’s cell phone, smashed it on the floor and left the apartment.

A maintenance worker also was inside the apartment during the incident
remodeling the bathroom. He entered the residence through a different door
leading to the kitchen.

Bell was charged with simple assault, criminal mischief and criminal
trespass. He was taken to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of
$10,000 bail.
