Police: Fall River man found guilty in 2023 shooting

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — A 30-year-old Fall River man accused of shooting another man in the hip in 2023 has been found guilty, according to the city's police department . Mohamadou Kante III was convicted on Friday, according to the department, for multiple firearm charges in a case prosecuted by the Bristol County District Attorney's Office. RELATED: Man shot in the hip in Fall River The shooting happened on Choate Street in September 2023. Kante was identified by the victim to police, eventually leading to his arrest in Rhode Island. Fall River police said Kante faces another charge — carrying a firearm without a license (subsequent offense) — that will be in a separate trial starting on Monday. Pete Hegseth, Donald Trump's pick for defense secretary, paid a woman who accused him of sexual assault in 2017 as part of a settlement agreement, an attorney for Hegseth said in a statement on Saturday. Tim Parlatore, a lawyer for the former Fox News star, said in the statement that Hegseth settled in December 2020 only because he feared his career would suffer if her allegations were made public. Parlatore said Hegseth was the victim of "blackmail" and "false claims of sexual assault" by an unidentified woman after a Republican women's convention in California on Oct. 7, 2017.
