Police: Fan brawl at Tennessee middle school football game includes officer, two charged
A Hartsville couple was arrested after a confrontation with an opposing team's fan and a school resource officer became physical at the end of a middle school football game Tuesday in Wilson County.
The football game was between Satterfield Middle in Trousdale County and Winfree Bryant Middle in Lebanon, according to the Wilson County Sheriff's Office.
The couple, a man and woman from Hartsville, are both 34 years old, according to police. Both are charged with assault and disorderly conduct in connection with the confrontation, police said.
The woman was also charged with public intoxication.
The incident occurred as fans were beginning to exit the bleacher area at the end of the game.
The woman was arguing with a Winfree Bryant supporter, police reported. Home and away fans sit on the same side, but are generally divided.
The Hartsville woman began to point and hit the forehead of the Winfree Bryant fan with her finger, police said. The Winfree Bryant fan, in defense, shoved the Hartsville woman away to create distance, according to police.
A student resource officer became involved after seeing the Hartsville woman raise her hand with a fist in an aggressive manner, police said, noting that the SRO grabbed the woman and an ensuing struggle caused both to fall.
While the officer and woman were on the ground, an unidentified person also began hitting and striking the SRO as the officer was trying to detain the Hartsville woman, according to a police report.
Lebanon police officers and Wilson County Sheriff's deputies responded to assist with crowd control.
The Hartsville man arrested in connection with the incident is accused of becoming involved in the altercation by jumping in and beginning to hit the Winfree Bryant fan when the Hartsville woman was first pushed, according to police.
The couple has been released on bond.
