Police investigate deadly shooting near Little Italy
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Two people were shot near Little Italy Wednesday morning, the San Diego Police Department confirmed.
According to authorities, a call came in around 8:22 a.m. reporting gunfire in the area of Union Street and W A Street. Police said one of the victims has died and the other has been transported to a local hospital for treatment.
No additional details were immediately released, though the department said an active homicide investigation is underway.
A short time later, another scene developed in the area of India and Juniper streets. It's been confirmed that a separate shooting took place involving a Harbor Police officer, who has also been taken to a local hospital.
Authorities say the two shootings are connected.
Logan Elementary was on a brief lockdown due to the shooting but that has since been lifted. Police have blocked off the roadway and the public is advised to avoid the area.
FOX 5/KUSI is working to gather more information. Police are planning to hold a press conference detailing the situation in the coming hour.
