Police investigate shooting death at MAX station near E Burnside and 148th

PORTLAND, Ore. () — A man was shot and killed near a Northeast Portland MAX stop in the Hazelwood Neighborhood Thursday night, authorities said.

The Portland Police Bureau said officers responded around 7:26 p.m. to the MAX Blue Line stop near E Burnside and E 148th Avenue on reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found a man dead at the scene.

A person has been detained as part of the investigation, PPB said in a release.

PPB's Homicide detectives are actively investigating the scene.

Just before 8 p.m., TriMet issued an alert that the MAX Blue Line would be closed at the station near East Burnside Street and East 148th Avenue. Shuttle buses will service the stations between Gateway/NE 99th Ave Transit Center and E 172nd Ave, officials said.

A TriMet spokesperson told KOIN 6 News people can check the agency's alerts website for more information about delays.

Just after 8 p.m., KOIN 6 crews at the scene took pictures of the police cars and caution tape surrounding the MAX stop at E 148th.
