POLICE NEWS: Elkhart woman injured in crash at C.R.s 18 & 13

Sep. 19—An Elkhart woman was injured in a two-vehicle crash at C.R.s 18 and 13, near Elkhart, at 8:17 a.m. Thursday.

Injured in the crash was Lisa M. Honey, 56, Elkhart.

According to Elkhart County deputies, Honey was driving a 2007 Toyota Avalon north on C.R. 13 and was about to make a left turn onto C.R. 18 after clearing the intersection.

A 2007 GMC Yukon driven by Jeffrey C. Samuel, 36, South Bend, was eastbound on C.R. 18 and disregarded a stop sign at the C.R. 13 intersection, police reported. The Yukon collided with the turning Avalon.

Samuel was not injured. he was cited for following too closely.

Honey complained of back pain and was taken to Elkhart General Hospital be a Concord Township ambulance.

Passenger injured in crash

The passenger in a van involved in a two-vehicle crash was taken to Goshen Hospital Wednesday.

According to Goshen police, at about 9:56 p.m. two vehicles collided at College Avenue and South 15th Street.

The investigation determined that a 2019 Toyota Sienna van driven by Heather M. Houston, 43, Goshen, was stopped on College Avenue at the 15th Street intersection facing west and she proceeded through because she thought a work crew person had waived her on even though the light was red.

A 2020 Nissan Rogue driven by Stephen R. Miller, 73, Goshen, was stopped at the same intersection but was northbound on 15th Street, police reported. His light turned green for him to go straight, and as he entered the intersection his vehicle and the van collided, the report reads.

The road crew person told police he was waiving a vehicle that was on 15th Street southbound to turn right, not the van.

A passenger in the van was sitting in a wheelchair that was clamped to the floorboards; however, the passenger, Benito Jarmillo, 76, Goshen, was not restrained in the chair, the report reads. The impact caused Jarmillo to be thrown from the chair. He sustained injuries to his chest, left knee and a laceration to his right foot. He was taken to Goshen Hospital for treatment.

Miller complained of head pain but refused to be taken to the hospital at the time.

Houston was uninjured.

A 70-year old man was arrested by Goshen police at 12:33 a.m. Thursday on charges of being a habitual traffic violator, possession of methamphetamines and paraphernalia after police were called to the 2700 block of Caragana Court for a report of a possible intoxicated driver.

HIT-AND-RUN

Lataura Mckinney, 40, reported to Elkhart County deputies at 9:54 a.m. Monday that someone struck her Ford Taurus and in a Chrysler Sebring in the parking lot of Phyl's Corner, 57968 C.R. 7, Elkhart, and left the scene.

—A 60-year-old woman reported to Goshen police at 1:14 p.m. Wednesday that someone she knew stole money from her in the 1700 block of Westplains Drive.

—A 33-year-old man reported to Goshen police at 5:21 p.m. Wednesday that a 20-inch blue Huffy bike and an 18-inch black Kent BMX bike were taken from the 500 block of Middlebury Street.

—A 35-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies that on Tuesday or Wednesday that his 2021 Talbert AC-20 trailer was stolen from 50000 block of C.R. 7, Elkhart.

—A 20-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies that between Sept. 11 and Wednesday someone stole a 2025 Forest River RV from the 29000 block of C.R. 56 of Nappanee.

A 54-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies at 4:10 p.m. Tuesday finding six bottles that were filled with urine had been thrown into her front lawn in the 22000 block of Old U.S. 20, Elkhart.
