SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) said its officers hit the jackpot when they stumbled upon an illegal gambling den at a scene for reported gunfire.

Oakland man convicted for following victims home, stealing their watche

The discovery happened Aug. 30 at 3 a.m. when officers responded to the 5500 block of Mission Street in the city's Ingleside section for an alert of possible gunshots. SFPD said officers at the location found what appeared to be "several bullet holes in a building and casings in the area." During a search for potential victims and suspects, police instead found a "den containing multiple gambling machines," said SFPD.

On Sept. 12, SFPD said officers assigned to its Crime Gun Investigations Center (CGIC) ATF, Ingleside Police Station and Tactical unit conducted a search warrant at the same location. Officials said the operation yielded multiple suspects and "evidence of an illegal gambling shack which included gambling machines, US currency, and two loaded firearms."

Investigators said they had enough probable cause to arrest a man for the charge of a felon in possession of a firearm.

SFPD said this is still an active and open case. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411.
