Polls open for City of Huntsville District 1 runoff elections

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — A city council seat and a spot on the city school board are up for grabs on Tuesday in Huntsville's District 1 runoff elections.

Polls will be open on Tuesday from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Sample ballots for the November 5, 2024 general election

Incumbent District 1 City Councilman Devyn Keith is taking on challenger Michelle Watkins , as she led Keith by 9 percentage points in the general election but neither reached enough votes to secure a victory.

Watkins received 1963 votes, compared to Keith's 1619 votes and McKenzie's 383 votes. You can see the full election results for that August 2024 Huntsville municipal election here.

Chaundra Jones and Pat King both got under 40% in the election and will now fight to represent the district in the Huntsville Board of Education seat. Claudia Harris and Will Culver also ran, but combined they received less than 27% of the vote.

The election results will be canvassed at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 1. Newly elected officials will be sworn into office on Monday, Nov. 4.
