Portage man charged with stealing $12K from sub shop skills machines, police say
SALIX, Pa. – A Portage man was charged with burglary, accused of breaking into Em's Sub Shop in Salix Aug. 4, and vandalizing two skills machines and making off with more than $12,000, authorities said.
Adams Township police charged Donny Shane Watters, 30, of the 2800 block of Frankstown Road, with burglary, criminal mischief, criminal trespass and theft.
According to a complaint affidavit, police were called to Em's Sub Shop, 1577 Forest Hills Drive, for a reported burglary.
Watters allegedly broke in through the front door. Video surveillance showed a male wearing dark clothing deploying a portable grinder with cutting blade to cut the chain and lock before wedging open the door with a pry bar, the affidavit said.
Watters allegedly vandalized two skills machines, stealing $12,230 and causing $6,400 damage.
Watters allegedly got away on a motorcycle, riding through a cemetery near a cornfield, the affidavit said.
Police, acting on a tip, searched Watters' garage looking for the motorcycle.
Watters will answer the charges before District Judge Rick Varner, of Salix.
