Possible renovations to Brookwood Village would bring new sports medicine facility
HOMEWOOD, Ala. ( WIAT ) — The Homewood Planning Commission voted 6-2-1 in favor to resurvey a development plan that would renovate a portion of Brookwood Village.
Prior to that vote, the commission was met with questions and concerns from some residents at Tuesday's Homewood Planning Commission meeting. Some sharing their opposition, requesting retail and lodging space instead of the facility.

According to representatives with Schoel Engineering Company and Fairway Investments, the plan would turn the old Belk building to a 135,000 sq. ft. Andrews Sports Medicine Facility that would include a clinic and surgical center.
Following the commission's vote for a favorable recommendation, the plan will now be presented to the Homewood City Council where they will then schedule public hearings for people to share their thoughts on the possible renovation.
Homewood City Councilor and member of the Planning Commission Jennifer Andress says she believes the plan presented by Schoel Engineering Company and Fairway investments has been in the works for some time.
"I think folks are ready to see something happen over here. I get asked that question and have been for a couple of years now," said Andress.
Andress says public hearing meetings will be held throughout November and December.
The city council could officially vote on this before the end of the year.
